Five blog post topics when you’re stuck for ideas

In order to get your SEO right these days, you need to constantly develop authoritative and interesting content that people want to read and share.

The trouble is, it can be a bit exhausting to keep coming up with ideas for blog posts – particularly when other aspects of your work get busier and more demanding.

Here are five ideas for blog posts that are easily adaptable and have proven to be topics that lead to a *click*.

1)      Top lists
People love lists. Example: “Top five shirtless pictures of Ryan Gosling”. Aaaaand *click*. Luckily, this works for less, um, sexy topics too. Ten blogs to keep an eye on in 2014. Twenty great gift ideas for your in-laws. You get the idea.

2)      How to … in X days/weeks
Giving people a roadmap to reach a goal they’d like to achieve in a certain period of time is always going to be a popular topic for a blog post. How to get real-live abs in three weeks. I would read that.

3)      Interviews
You may have noticed a little while ago that I published an interview I did with Liz on our blog. Why? Well, I had no idea what to write about. So I decided to make her do the work instead give you all a bit of insight into the mind of my awesome business partner. Doing interviews is a useful way to get new content for your site, and to introduce some voices people in your industry would be interested in hearing.

4)      Any useful tools that you use?
People are always looking for tools that would help make their job easier. By using your own business as an example and telling people about the tools that you use, you’ll be helping people out and offering them the kind of useful info that will keep them coming back for more.

5)      Made any mistakes?
So, remember that time we deleted an entire website the day before we were supposed to show it to a client? Ja. That happened. And we wrote a blog post about it because we like to keep you entertained and we’re nice like that. Not everyone gets things right the first time (and if they do, they’d be advised to keep quiet about it around the rest of us). Sharing what you’ve learnt from your mistakes can be helpful to others in your industry – even if it’s just to let them know that you’re all in the same boat, a lot of the time.

BIG NEWS: The Long and the short of it

You guys – we’ve been sitting on some big news for a while now, waiting ‘til things were signed and sealed before we told you. Actually, that’s not entirely true. Liz was rearing to go – and I was putting the breaks on until things were, you know, o-fficial. That’s generally how our work relationship goes.

But, yesterday was the big day. Contracts have been signed and sealed and – DRUM ROLL…. Pomegranite will have office space in January! Not just any old office space, mind. Office space in Long Street! I know! Could it get more exciting? No, it could not.

We can’t wait to be a part of the bustling life on this iconic street in the Mother City – or just around the corner from our friends at Chandler House.

It doesn’t even feel real yet, for me. But don’t pinch me. I bruise like a freaking peach.

So, in the new year, come and say hi at 110 Long Street. If you time it right, you could pitch up in time for drinks on our balcony, while eyeing the beautiful Mungo and Jemima dresses across the street (I know, right? Meant. To. Be.).

Yip. 2014 is looking pretty damn exciting for Pomegranite. Thanks for all the encouragement and for coming along for the ride by following our blog.

A brand is the way that a business is personified in the minds of consumers.

I didn’t say that, unfortunately. Melissa Bolton did. But she’s right. Your brand speaks to people and makes them want a part of whatever it is that your business offers – or it should.

When building a brand, your logo is one of the most important aspects to consider. It conveys the personality of your brand.

Lion hearts and Castle Light: 10 things you didn’t know about Liz

Every Friday we give you a behind-the-scenes peak into life at Pomegranite. So today I thought I’d help you get to know Liz a bit more by asking her some really hard interestingly thought-provoking questions.

1. What did you want to be when you grew up?

I think it was a toss-up between a vet and an astronaut.

2. What’s your favourite thing about living and working in Cape Town?

Definitely the fact that it’s a walkable city. Growing up in the ‘burbs in Durban, where the city centre was pretty much off-limits apart from driving through on the way to the beach, I had a very glamorous idea of city life. I was determined to live in a New York apartment with a red door. I still might but Cape Town has shaped that idea of city life in a new way and I love it here.

3. If your life was a movie, which actress would play you?

Yoh, that’s a hard one. In high school I used to get told I look a bit like Kate Hudson. That was incredibly awkward, what are supposed to do with that? I quite like Jennifer-Katniss-Aberdeen-what’s-her-face.

4. If your life was a book, what would the title be?

The great adventure of a little girl with a lion heart.

5. If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?

Flying, obviously! Also, telekinesis to hold my book and turn the pages so my arms don’t have to venture out from under my duvet. And some way to secretly help people to let go of whatever heaviness they’re carrying.

6. What song best describes your work ethic?

Mannenburg by Abdullah Ibrahim – classic South African jazz – because I work best when I feel it, there’s not much that’s regimental about my day.

7. What’s the best piece of life advice anyone has ever given you?

Whatever you do, do it well. It doesn’t matter what it is – you never lose a skill.

8. Having worked with me for five months now, what is one thing that you think people should know about me but don’t?

You aren’t afraid to drive a hard bargain but run squealing from numbers on a spreadsheet.

(Aside: This is true. Spreadsheets were put on this earth to END me. Luckily, Liz LOVES them. Hey Liz?)

9. You walk into a bar right now and order a drink. What is it?

Finally! An easy question! Castle Light.

10. What advice would you give someone thinking about starting their own business?

Do it out of excitement and passion, not out of fear or because you don’t know what else to do. If, sometimes, it doesn’t feel like work, you’re on the right track. Keep your ears open and read about everything you can about your industry. Also, it’s ok to make it up as you go along. Everyone else is.
