Youth Capital

Youth Capital is a campaign to transform the employment trajectory of a generation. Their aim is to ensure that every young South African has the skills, support, and opportunity to get their first decent job.

Young South Africans (aged 15- 34) make up just over 36% of the total population of our country. They should be the engine of our economy, society, and democracy, but 7.9 million of them are out of work, education or training opportunities.

Youth Capital believes that, instead of capitalising on our youth dividend, we are squandering it. We cannot afford to keep wasting the potential of South Africa. We have to work together to change the status quo. If we act quickly, with a shared commitment and purpose – we can fundamentally change the nature of youth employment, and break the cycle of poverty.

Youth Capital required a strategic social media approach in order to reach South Africa’s youth. We developed a social media campaign geared towards young people, encouraging them to ask the right questions about their future. Once the campaign had run its course, we developed a social media workshop to train their new communications manager to keep social media going in-house.

JobStarter

JobStarter is a mobile learning, career information platform created to address some of the structural hurdles that undermine the potential connections between young people and post-school work and/or further education opportunities. They aim to be the go-to information, learning and opportunity aggregator for youth, as well as educate employers on the opportunities they can create for young people looking for work.

We were tasked with writing in-depth blog posts on some of the services they offer, and informing young job seekers on the various opportunities open to them. We also got this infront of their audience via their social media channels, which we also managed through different campaigns and strategies we drafted each month according to the current theme.

Open Society Foundation

The Open Society Foundation for South Africa (OSF-SA) is committed to promoting the values, institutions and practices of an open, non-racial and non-sexist, democratic, civil society.

Pomegranite has worked with OSF-SA since 2014. Pomegranite built and takes care of their website and social media, predominantly relating to their grantees. We publish news updates regarding events that feature OSF grantees and monitor the media for breaking news involving their grantees.

During November 2018, the Open Society Foundation celebrated 25 years of grant-making in South Africa. The organisation also paid tribute to founder, George Soros, who visited South Africa, along with other OSF international network partners. The celebration was special because his philanthropy was born in South Africa, with the issuing for scholarships for black students to attend UCT in 1979.

Pomegranite built a dedicated website which housed a range of information including a special timeline which displayed archive material from OSF-SA’s 25 years in South Africa, along with tributes to George Soros, special films, press releases and event information.

We also managed several social media campaigns related to the week of celebrations and live-tweeted major events. We were delighted that “#OpenSocietySA25” trended in Cape Town during the celebrations.

Autonomy FI Pomegranite

Autonomy

Autonomy is an urban mobility summit and exhibition held annually in Paris. They bring together policy-makers, innovators, business leaders and the public to showcase sustainable urban mobility. Visitors can explore a curated exhibition area, test tracks and live demos as well as engage with other industry professionals in networking activities.

We assisted Autonomy with social media campaigns directed at exhibitors and the public. We also optimised their website for ticket sales, UX and content.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation has been actively promoting the consolidation of democracy and human rights, advancing gender equality, and taking action to prevent the destruction of the environment in Southern Africa since 1989. For many organisations and individuals the Foundation has become a reliable funding partner, a space for constructive dialogue and an international network. It also provides analyses of contemporary political events in the region

SA SME fund

The SA SME Fund was established by members of the CEO Initiative – a collaboration between government, labour and business to address some of the most pressing challenges to the country’s economic growth – as an avenue of support for the SME sector. The Fund needed specialised social media coverage over the course of several months to build the brand’s profile at events and during the launch of Fund projects. We handled their social media accounts through a combination of structured, pre-approved content as well as amplifying PR coverage as it happened.

AgriProtein

As Pomegranite had recently built a personal website for their executive director, Jason Drew, AgriProtein approached us to manage their social media. AgriProtein is at the forefront of a new industry called nutrient recycling. By using fly larvae fed on existing organic waste, AgriProtein has developed a new large-scale and sustainable source of natural protein that means that we don’t rely on fishmeal (and large-scale fishing of our oceans).

We do extensive research to share industry news which positions AgriProtein as a thought-leader in the green tech industry while also providing a peep behind the scenes of their globally-renowned organisation.

Kingsmead Book Fair

​The Book Fair was started in 2011 by a group of parents at Kingsmead College. Its inaugural event hosted eight authors as speakers, and guests were made up of the school’s community members. Hosted annually since then, this year was its eighth edition and it hosted over 4 000 guests with more than 120 authors, editors, poets and publishers from around the globe presenting. No wonder, then, that it’s considered a significant event on the South African literary calendar.

For the third year running, Pomegranite built the Kingsmead Book Fair website and ran a social media campaign in the lead-up to the event. We also live-tweeted the event on the day.

All in all, the Kingsmead Book Fair 2019 social media campaign was a rip-roaring success. It received a combined 483 594 impressions across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Sologix

Having worked in big business for 25 years, Anton Pretorius decided to turn his attention to doing work which creates growth and generates improvement. He felt that working with small and medium-sized enterprises is the best way to achieve this because these businesses drive our economy, create employment and allow individuals to improve their situation. And so he started Sologix.

Anton needed a corporate identity and website to communicate who he is and what he can offer. While representing him as a trusted advisor, we also wanted to bring across his personality. He’s a dad, a surfer, a motorbike enthusiast and “the biggest Pink Floyd fan in [his] home”.

In 2019 we launched several online courses on the Sologix platform, which allowed Anton to extend his reach beyond Cape Town-based clients. As clients of Anton ourselves, we were thrilled to be part of a project that brings his valuable skills and insight to as many people as possible.

#BetterOffKnowing Campaign

#BetterOffKnowing is a campaign funded by the Health Systems Trust, focused on raising awareness and driving discussion about HIV testing, HIV treatment and living with HIV in South Africa.

Pomegranite was responsible for the community management of the campaign as well as image sourcing and branding and social media posting across Facebook and Twitter, for the duration of the campaign.

Because the campaign was so successful and generated such extensive engagement, the Health Systems Trust continues to post on the campaign accounts.

Southern African Impact Investing Network

The Southern African Impact Investing Network (SAIIN) is the region’s leading impact investing event. The aim of the network is to promote the concept and practice of impact investing in the region, and, in doing so, contribute to the development of an investment ecosystem that brings new ideas and sources of capital to developmental challenges.

Pomegranite developed the content for the SAIIN website as well as implementing website updates and updating the blog. For the past two years Pomegranite has manged the social media build up to the conference on Twitter as well as live tweeting the event. During the event Pomegranite also provides event coverage in the form of blog posts, photos and short videos of the action.
