The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ)

How can a website support justice worldwide?

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is an organisation made up of judges, lawyers and legal academics – from all parts of the world and all legal systems – with unparalleled knowledge of the law and human rights. We worked to ensure every aspect of the site acts as a tool in affirming their advocacy of creating a world where everyone is treated equally and fairly.

Accessibility was a big focus for this build. There were lots of adjustments made, with the help of those who’re visually impaired, to ensure everyone has access to the ICJ website, and the important information represented therein. The website is completely navigable via keyboard, and extra elements were added throughout the site in order to make the user journey easy with minimal input.

The site features automatic translation, which is a fantastic way to ensure that anyone across the globe can get access to the site’s information, without having to expend the resources on time-intensive manual translation.

The biggest challenge in conceptualising the new site layout was the vast amount of information that it needed to include, ensuring that it is presented in an easily digestible manner. The website is visually and hierarchically framed in a way that emphasises the time-sensitive nature of the content featured. User journey-wise, the website gives you what you need to know first, while offering you multiple “doors” you can enter for more information, depending on what you’re looking for. The site positions the ICJ as a trusted source on developments in international human rights law and standards.

Take a look through the ICJ’s complex resource hub or archive to see how we tackled the creation of a vast library of resources spanning decades.

The ICJ has a resource library of over

important law-related resources, dating back to the 1950s.

“I can’t praise your team enough. You have all made this process genuinely enjoyable and we are delighted with the end product.”
