A love affair with the Kingsmead Book Fair
By Sarah
For almost as long as Pomegranite has been in existence, the annual Kingsmead Book Fair has been one of the highlights on our work calendar – a website we love furnishing with each new theme and author lineup; a social media calendar we delight in crafting; an event we dream about live posting both before and after the spectacular reality of the day itself.
There have been some wonderful themes over the years, but it’s been a clear team consensus that this year is our favourite: “Birds of a feather… bookmark together!”
Firstly, there are the beautiful website graphics. Birds made out of book pages? Yes please! In fact, can we make them fly onto the page? Even better.
Secondly, you probably don’t realise how many bird-related sayings exist (if you really wanted to lean into a theme) until you start pulling at that thread. Needless to say, we had so much fun drafting the social media strategy in the lead-up to the event. The email we got from our wonderful client telling us how she couldn’t stop giggling as she reviewed it on a long-haul flight was an instant highlight.
And finally, we cannot wait for the event itself, which is happening in Melrose, Johannesburg on Saturday 24 May. If you’re in town, it’s a must-do! Things you can expect:
- Delicious food and drinks on offer
- An incredible local and international author lineup which makes choosing which panels to go to a treat of a challenge
- Separate programmes for kids, teens and adults – there really is something for everyone!
- An Exclusive Books pop-up shop
- And an unbeatable Joburg vibe.
Whether you find your flock among the cook books, murder mysteries, historical fiction, romance novels or political commentary, there’s a perfect panel waiting for you at this year’s Kingsmead Book Fair.
Has our enthusiasm sold you yet? You can get tickets here. See you there!
